Gen Z singer Janah Zaplan breaks her silence on corruption

Gen Z singer and Star Pop artist Janah Zaplan walks into tougher ground this time. She becomes the voice of Ricky Rivera’s anti-corruption song Oh Panginoon Pangunahan Mo Ang Pagbabago, a move not many young artists would take. The track is now out on all digital platforms.

We met her at the launch held at Tribute Hotel in Quezon City on Dec 1, 2025. She said she was grateful when Rivera chose her for the piece. “Honored ako,” Janah said. “Kasi ako yung napili niya para iinterpret yung song.”

The timing feels sharp. The song reminds people to stay alert and not let these issues fade. And it also points to something many Filipinos want but rarely see. Accountability.

When we asked how someone from her generation can help fight corruption, she kept it real. She has strong opinions, but she’s an introvert. She doesn’t join rallies or shout in public. “May strong opinion ako about it,” she said. “Pero introvert ako, so hindi ko kayang i-express sa pagsigaw. Naie-express ko siya through this song at sa ibang platforms through arts.”

For her, awareness is already a step. But awareness shouldn’t stop there. She believes prayer, cooperation, and actual action all matter. “I-combine natin yung force para mas maging stronger yung panawagan at pakikipaglaban,” she added.

Then she talked about something that hit her the most. She sees how hard Filipinos work. She knows taxes aren’t small. “Sobrang dismayado ako na napupunta sa corruption yung taxes na binabayaran ng mga tao,” Janah said. She said the same thing many Filipinos say quietly. People responsible should be held accountable. And those who fight fairly deserve justice.

Recording the song wasn’t easy. She’s used to pop. This one had a different weight. “May anger kasi rito,” she admitted. The emotion was new to her, a bit heavy, but she pushed through because the message mattered.

Now that the song is out, she hopes it adds even a small push. Not just to remember the issue. But to demand accountability for corruption, too.
