Rodjun Cruz, Certified King of the Dance Floor
By Boy Romero
Rodjun Cruz is without a doubt the king of the dance floor. That title is already welded to his name, and no one can take it away because he’s got proof to back it up.
He has already won two major dance competitions. The first was You Can Dance on ABS-CBN in 2007. Then, after 18 years, he was once again crowned grand champion in Stars on the Floor on GMA 7, together with his partner Dasuri Choi.
The joy on Rodjun’s face was obvious when he spoke to the entertainment press.
“Overflowing. The fulfillment and happiness are something else. After all our hard work, we finally achieved it,” Rodjun said smiling.
According to him, there were ten duos who competed, and everyone was strong. What gave him and Dasuri the edge was their confidence and positive mindset.
“We were confident in every round. Whoever we were up against, we knew we could handle it. And of course, my strength comes from my family and from prayer.”
He admitted that the contemporary genre was the most difficult for him. But that’s also what made them win.
“I really struggled with contemporary. But that’s what brought us victory,” said Rayver Cruz’s older brother.
He added that what he lacked, Dasuri made up for. Contemporary is her strength since she studied it in Korea. The only thing she feared was the lifting part because she wasn’t used to it.
“It’s all about teamwork and trust. Whenever something’s new to me, I study it and train my mind to learn. I studied contemporary, even the emotions that come with it. It’s different from hip-hop. The connection and chemistry are not the same.”
One big reason for his win, he said, was the full support of his family. At the grand finals, his brother Rayver, his wife Dianne Medina, and their children Joaquin and Isabella were all there cheering for him.
And just like what they said, the crown still fits.
