Sarah Javier Owns the Stage as Tandang Sora
By Boy Romero
Not everyone can hold an audience for three shows in one day. Sarah Javier did it.
She’s back on stage via Bonifacio: Ang Supremo, Isang Musikal from Phil Stagers Foundation. Written, directed, and headlined by Atty. Vince Tañada, the play premiered August 2 at St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. Sarah was tapped to play Tandang Sora as the alternate of veteran stage actress Adelle Ibarrientos.
After watching Adelle’s performance, Sarah was asked if she felt pressured. She admitted she’s a big fan and promised not to let down those who trusted her with the role.
She kept that promise. At her debut performance in Novadeci Convention Center, she didn’t just act the part, she became Tandang Sora. She studied the role, did her own makeup to age herself, and nailed the movements, voice, and presence of the character. She sang, danced, walked, and spoke like she’d lived the role for years.
Even with strong co-actors, Sarah stood out without trying to steal focus. And despite doing three shows that day, she showed no sign of slowing down. Her adrenaline and passion carried her to the last bow.
Sometimes, the real scene-stealer isn’t the loudest one. It’s the one who’s prepared, passionate, and quietly ready to surprise you.
