Patrick Marcelino Is Now the New Lead Singer of Inner Voices
By Boy Romero
Patrick Marcelino isn’t exactly new to the band Inner Voices, but now, he’s front and center as their official lead singer. And if you’ve seen him live, you’ll get why people are saying, “Bagay.”
No audition happened. No long list of candidates. When longtime vocalist Angelo Miguel stepped away, manager Atty. Rey Bergado asked the group if they still wanted to push forward. The answer was yes, so he didn’t waste time looking far. He already had someone in mind.
He and Patrick first met in Molito Alabang. A common friend, who also happened to be Patrick’s composer, introduced them. At the time, Patrick was performing as an acoustic singer. That moment stuck with Atty. Rey. He saw something in Patrick, even back then.
It wasn’t just a gut feeling. Patrick had already stepped in a few times to cover for Angelo during gigs. He knew the band. He knew the songs. He understood the vibe. Atty. Rey admits that filling Angelo’s shoes wasn’t going to be easy, but Patrick didn’t try to copy the old formula. He brought something else. Something that worked.
There’s one moment that stood out. Patrick called Atty. Rey one day and asked for a birthday gift. It wasn’t a watch or a cake. It was a song. “Meant To Be” was an unreleased track they had tried recording with Angelo, but it never felt right. With Patrick, it finally clicked. They also recorded “Idlip,” and everything just flowed.
If you ask Patrick, he’ll tell you he wasn’t nervous. He already knew the group dynamics, especially since he was friends with Angelo and had seen how things worked behind the scenes. That gave him a bit of an edge. He wasn’t coming in clueless.
He’s aware that lead singers often get most of the credit. After every show, people usually walk up and say things like, “Ang galing mo.” But Patrick makes it clear he’s not doing this alone. He’s grateful for the praise, but he reminds fans to support the whole band. He says he’s just a part of a team.
And it seems like the team is stronger than ever. Patrick’s first songs with Inner Voices — Galaw, Idlip, Meant To Be, and Tubig, Hangin, Apoy at Lupa — were all met with applause during their launch night at 19 East in Sucat. The venue was packed. The response was solid.
All four songs are now available for download and streaming on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, TikTok, and other major platforms. Patrick’s voice is now leading Inner Voices into their next chapter. And honestly, it feels like it was always supposed to happen this way.
